I’m Rich

A friend loves at all times. Proverbs 17:17

When I say I’m rich, I am not talking about my bank account. I am talking about being rich in friendship. As I have mentioned earlier, I am a part of a blog roll with some gifted writers. There is a different theme each month. June’s theme is Friendship.

I’ve been pondering friendship this month. Well, it’s been quite a chaotic month for me so in between going bat-sh*t crazy, I have been thinking about it and what it means to actually be a true friend. And yes, bat-sh*t crazy is my new favorite phrase.

I am blessed to have many friends, from all around the world. However, I have been thinking about the hallmark of a true friend. The hallmark of a true friend is someone who cares enough to confront me when I have hurt them. It’s surprising to me that I would say this because I HATE confrontation. Yet, I believe it with all my heart. Why? Because this means that they love you enough to tell you the cussing truth. This means they aren’t going to take your crap. This means they are going to stick by your side through thick and thin. My true friends are those who do this with me and those people with whom I can lovingly return the favor. *Wink*

True friends are going to be there on your worst, messiest, crappiest day and hold those feelings with you. True friends will pray without ceasing for you when you can’t pray for yourself. True friends will pluck your chin hairs when you get too old to do it yourself. True friends will have your back when anyone comes against you. True friends cheer for you when you don’t think you can make it. True friends call out the good in you and love you through the bad. True friends continue to bring rotisserie chickens when the rotisserie chickens have stopped coming. Bagaaaaawwwwwwwk!

I am rich in friendship and I am grateful for my true friends. You know who you are. I love you madly.

What is the hallmark of true friendship for you?

  1. Hey rich girl…I'm so proud of you and you surviving the guano. I think my favorite part of being your friend is that you DO confront well and with powerful tenderness….well, that and the fact that your laugh is one of the best things on this planet.
